Robinson's reprieve may yet prove to be short-lived

ANDY ROBINSON has urged England to "keep the belief " as he continues a fight for survival in the cut-throat world of international sport.

The England head coach effectively gained a stay of execution following his team's 23-21 victory over South Africa at Twickenham.

It was hardly a performance to inspire job security, and despite the admirable public support shown by players and coaching staff, a giant question-mark remains hovering over the coach, performance levels and tactical execution.

Reviews and debriefs dominate the Rugby Football Union agenda to such an extent there can be no guarantee Robinson will survive much beyond next Saturday's second Springboks Test.

Even World Cup winner Martin Johnson believes England can only improve their prospects of a successful title defence by replacing head coach Robinson.

England Tops South Africa in Rugby to End Losing Run (Update1)

Nov. 18 (Bloomberg) -- England beat South Africa 23-21 in today's rugby union Test to avoid a record eighth straight defeat, while Argentina won 23-16 at Italy.

World Cup winner Phil Vickery touched down with seven minutes remaining as England tied the match at Twickenham in southwest London. Andy Goode then secured the victory with his conversion attempt.

``It's a big win for us and the team can take a lot of pride,'' England coach Andy Robinson told Sky Sports. ``There were a lot of guts shown and hopefully we'll take some confidence out of this.''

Elsewhere, Scotland defeated the Pacific Islands 34-22 and top-ranked New Zealand beat France 23-11.

England, which last week had tied its worst losing streak since 1971-72, appeared set for another defeat as it trailed today 13-6 at halftime.
