Girlie gardeners branch out - with a man

SKIPTON-based company Girlie Gardening, which specialises in feminine gardening equipment, is taking off across the country.

After starting out from a shop behind Skipton High Street they have now moved to a 5,000 square feet warehouse at Airedale Business Centre on the outskirts of the town.

And after a year of selling eye-catching products such as bright pink watering cans, rugby shirts and clogs, it has a turnover approaching £250,000.

The company was set up by friends Helen James and Cathy Caudwell Todd, who met when their children attended the same school.

The business was formed following the success of the Urban Garden Centre on Rope Walk, which the pair set up three years ago.

They noticed that their pink watering cans were selling well so they decided to launch a range of feminine gardening products - and the business really took off.

Cayman Grizzlies win Remax Rugby Knackerfest tournament

Originally billed as a two-day event, the inaugural Remax Invitational Knackerfest had to be hastily re-scheduled after the Jamaica Old Boys team had to drop out at the last minute following a death in their Rugby fraternity.

The event, which was to be the start of a yearly 35 and older Rugby tournament, was meant to feature an epic three-way battle between Jamaica Old Boys, Remax Oldies and the Cayman Grizzlies, for the Gemini Cup.

In what the Cayman Islands Rugby Football Union (CRFU) describe as truly the essence of Rugby in Cayman and an indication of the spirit of the clubs playing membership, the Jamaicans sent their Rugby shirts in lieu of their Rugby players. On the first day of play, two local teams were made up with James Bovell, one of the Remax title sponsors, leading the new Jamaica Old Boys out in their characteristic green shirts to meet the Cayman Grizzlies in Blue, led by Marcus Cumber.

City Dinner 2006

The Brewery in the City of London was once again the venue for the annual Quins City Dinner, which was held on Tuesday night (21st November). This year's event, supported by Tenfore Systems, was attended by almost 500 guests and is now a firm fixture in the Quins calendar.

The event was enjoyed by Quins sponsors, City folk, supporters and friends alike, who all had a chance to rub shoulders with current squad members and coaches plus a few Quins legends as well. The event also saw three more Quins legends inducted into the Harlequins Hall of Fame, with Colin Payne, David Cooke and Clifford Gibbs joining the likes of Peter Winterbottom, Adrian Stoop and Wavell Wakefield.

The City Dinner also raised funds for Quins nominated charity, The Richard Langhorn Trust. One very lucky winner walked away with a holiday for four to Antigua as a raffle prize and the auction, which included signed England and New Zealand rugby shirts and hospitality at the Epsom Derby, helped to raise over £20,000 for the charity.
