Japan and Georgia booked places at Rugby World Cup 2007 in France after successfully negotiating the latest round of qualifying at the weekend. Japan comfortably defeated Korea 54-0 in Hong Kong to qualify as Asia 1, while Georgia's 11-11 draw against Portugal in Lisbon was enough to secure a 28-14 aggregate victory and a place as Europe 3.

Japan made light work of defeating a battling Korean side in Hong Kong, scoring eight tries in the process in a victory which was a significant step-up in performance from the 25-3 Asia Qualifying Tournament victory achieved against Hong Kong earlier in the week.

In a statement, the 40-year-old - who was suspended on November 14 - said: “I wish to make it clear that my suspension from Coventry Rugby Club is in no way linked to the playing ban imposed on Apoua Stewart following his being tested positive for the banned drug Ephedrine."
“I have always strongly condemned the use and distribution of prohibited substances and methods and I would not condone drug abuse in any shape or form.
“Coventry Rugby Club has asked me not to discuss the reasons for my suspension at this time as an investigation is ongoing and I intend to abide by the club's wishes in this respect.
"However, I am aware that some people are inferring it is linked to Apoua's ban, which is of considerable concern to me, and my family.
"I therefore felt it was necessary to send out a clear message that the allegations that have been made against me are in no way connected with drug abuse and put an end to any damaging speculation."
Umaga was suspended following "serious allegations" - the nature of which have not been revealed as the club carries out its investigation.
